.co.uk Domain Name

The .com or .co.uk is called a domain name and is a very important part of a website.

Instead of using actual web addresses which are in the form of server numbers ( i.e. 123.456.45.67 ) a name is assigned to a numbered address so that humans can make more sense of it.
Each country has its own domain name endings and there are a number of generic ones such as .com (commercial) .biz (business).

We use .co.uk because its the cheapest, most widely used in the UK and identifies you as a UK business.

Your .co.uk can be the name of your business i.e mxwebdesign.co.uk or the type of business you are i.e
2-webdesign.co.uk.

This is what a customer needs to type in to find your website.

Space on the Internet

There are 2 options.

We can use your free space provided by your Internet Service Provider. This is the company you use to log onto the Internet. (AOL, BT, NTL) They normally provide a certain amount of space for their customers websites. However they do not like commercial websites, they want you to pay for that.

We can provide you a space free for the first 2 years then there is a charge per annum after that.

Free Updates

There will be 1 free update a month for the first 12 months. An update is considered to be a change in data i.e. scores, prices addresses etc. not a change in the structure or look of the site.

Terminology

Web Hosting- The actual storage of the web site on a computer that is attached to the internet, so it is viewable by anyone using the web.

Web Forwarding- The .co.uk name chosen by you points to your site on the internet. Your real web address might be http://usernet.customer/joe.bloggs.co.uk but web forwarding allows your customers to use the simpler name www.joebloggs.co.uk this will take them to your site.

Email Forwarding- Like web forwarding this allows customers to use an more easy to remember email address.
For example your actual email address might be joe.bloggs@userenet.co.uk but you can use-:
sales@joebloggs.co.uk or manager@joebloggs.co.uk or almost anything before @joebloggs.co.uk. All email will be sent to your own email address.
